National Hideout Museum in Aalten

The National Hideout Museum in Aalten tells the story of the life of a community during World War II. You will discover how civilians got through the days during the occupation years and how people in hiding were housed.

Daily life during the Second World War was not easy. People faced countless choices and challenges, the 'good', the 'bad' and everything in between. Learn how difficult it was to generate electricity by hand and how oppressive it was to go into hiding in the small spaces of a house.

You will also see an extensive collection about the history of Aalten in this museum, including the textile industry. Or try to escape in the Escape Room for Freedom, where you will be faced with various questions and dilemmas faced by every refugee.

Opening hours and address

The National Hideout Museum is open at the following times:

  • Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm
  • Sunday from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

From De Twee Bruggen it is an 8-minute drive and about 20 minutes by bike.
